Katelyn Duncan STAFF WRITER Senior Jordan Hanzon has a different name mose might not recognize: Kinkomyers. This is his screen name on YouTube that he uses to upload videos. He started in 2007 and has uploaded 97 videos since then. Jordan began making videos in 8th grade. While running for Student Body Officer he had to make the required video, and even thought he didn't win, he was introduced to a new pastime that eventually became a passion. "At first it was just a past time, until I met some of my, will I guess you could call them 'fans.' They looked forward to my videos with almost an obsession looking looking forward to what I would do next. i was making their day with a couple minutes of their time," said Jordan. "So my new goal became to make at least one person laugh or be entertained that video. If I could keep that up, then it would always be worth it." Jordan films three types of videos, music parodies, vlogs, and skits. For his music parodies he combines one of the top billboard songs and the most popular subjects in society. Vlogs, or video logs, are his views and opinions of school, politics, or life in general. Skits, they "just come to me. . . most of the tome in a shower," he said. "A good majority are based on events that happen to me in real life." One downfall of YouTube is that your videos are up for the whole world to see, and any nameless, faceless person can share their opinion. Most of the time they praise the videos Jordan has uploaded, but sometimes there are mean or nasty comments left. "Oh the haters. Yeah I get them. A lot," siad Jordan. "For the most part I just laugh at them. they usually say things like how horrible the video ism but when you look at their channel, they haven't even made a single thing. I'm all for criticism, but you should at least try befor you criticize what you don't know." Currently, Jordan is involved in Bingham's Broadcasting COmpany, BBC. Jordan is involved inthe filming and editing of the daily announcements bradcasted to the entire school. Jordan is also working on a few larger side projects, such as music videos involving more people. Jordan not only loves to make his own videos, but he loves to watch others' as well. Some of his favorite editing is done by MysteryGuitarMan. He also loves Onision, LiveLaveLive and Tobuscus for their unique take on videos. One person he's been told he is most like is Philip DeFranco. "I've been told a lot that I'm pretty much an Indian Phil and our editing styles are really similar," he said. In the future he "would love to make videos. It's my one true passion in life and to be paid to do that would be amazing. As far as I know I've always been heading towards dentistry, abut who knows? I;m sure they're looking to replace Michael Bay or Shyamalan soon." |
