7th Period Civics/Am Gov class

Coursework for March 16th-March 20th

1. Watch the 20 minute Annenberg video 'One man changes the Constitution' and fill out the studyguide that goes with it (I have attached the link, but you can also just google the title).  This gives you some good info on the case itself, but it also gives you an indication of how the Supreme Court works.  And by the way, we will finish your Supreme Court Presentations when you get back (whenever that is).
2.  Use the powerpoint on Civil Liberties/Amendments that I have attached to fill out the guided lecture notes and then using a copy of the Constitution (you can easily find one online), answer the following questions on the amendments.  Most of the questions are pretty straight forward and you'll find right in the Constitution.  But for a few questions, you may have to do a litttle backgroud research on that amendment.
Coursework for March 23rd to March 27th

So everything we do from here on out will go on 4th quarter's grade
I will still accpet extra credit movies up unitil Friday of this week for 3rd quarter's grade (I'v attached a list of accepted movies).

We are officically finsihed in talking about the Constitution. Instead of taking a traditional test, I'm just going to have you fill out the studyguide for the test.  I would type this up and send it to me or do this on another piece of paper and take a picture of it and send it to me.

Good luck and email me if you have any questions.

Coursework for the week of March 30th to April 3rd:

1.  There will nothing assigned next week during Spring Break.
2.  For this week, view 1 of the 3 powerpoints attached and write a traditional, five paragraph essay responding to one (Intro, 3 reasons for your belief on the issue, conclusion). You also must have 1 statistic or piece of data in your essay.  I don't care if you take it from the powerpoint or if you get it on your own.  You can handwrite or type the essay.
*Again, you only have to write 1 essay, even though there are 3 different topics.
Coursework for the week of April 13th to April 17th:

Hello Civics class!

Well, we're plodding along.  Hope you are staying safe and keeping your sanity.  This week we are going to talk about Voters and Voter Behavior (and what a good time to, with a presidential election coming up this November!).  Your job is to:

1.  View the Powerpoint on Voters and Voter Behavior and fill in the guided notes that go along with them (both are attached at the bottom).
*BTW, if your computer doesn't have powerpoint (like my laptop at home), try opening it up on a smartphone if you have one, that worked for me.
2.  Make an advertising campaign that encourages people to vote (see attachment at bottom).  It can be any form you'd like and doesn't have to be that complicated (some of the simplest ideas are the best), but you should have put some thought into it.
Coursework for April 20th to April 24th

Before we get to this week's coursework, I am putting in scores for your Supreme Court Case Presentation.  If you haven't already sent me your presentation, please do so in the next while.

This week we will be talking about Our National Debt.  We were already in a lot of debt, but now add 2.5 trillion dollars for the Coronavirus stimulus and that's a lot of money.  For this week, view the short Google slides on the national debt and fill in the notes.  Then, watch the Youtube video IOUSA (about 32 minutes long) and fill out the videoguide that goes along with it.  Keep in mind that this was make in 2008, so we have more than tripled our national debt in the last 12 years.   The notes and the videoguide are on the same page.

Here is the link to the video.  If it says 'restricted' try opening up Youtube on your own, and search for IOUSA: Byte-sized, 30 min version.  Let me know if you have any problems.
Coursework for the week of April 27th to May 8th (I'm not assigning anything next week):

Hey Civics class,

This is the class that has me the most worried as most of you are seniors and this is required for graduation.  Please do your best to get caught up and get a passing grade.  I won't assign anything next week so you have a chance to get caught up on anything you may be missing.  I won't dock points for latework, but I do have to see it!

For the next 2 weeks:

1.  View the powerpoint on Special Interest groups and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.
2.  Complete the assignment on a special interest group of your choosing.  Answer the quesions as best you can.
This is the second to last week we will have work.  Nothing will be assigned after next week.
For this week (May 11th- May 15th) you should:

1.  View the Powerpoint on different 'Forms of Government' and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.  This is all about different POLITICAL systems in the world.
2.  Slightly related, but with differences, there are different ECONOMIC systems as well.  So you need to write down 1 pro and 1 con for Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism at the end of your notes.

Ok Civics class,

This is the LAST assignment I'm giving you for the year (and it's crazy easy)!

Follow the directions for the Civics Exam questions below.  It's pretty self-explanatory and simple, shouldn't take you that long.  Email me, or send me a picture, of your answers when you're done.

I have enjoyed teaching all of you this semester!  I am SO SORRY our time together got cut short.  But I know you guys are talented and resourceful, and that you are going to rock it in the future! Good luck and may the force be with you!
