Student Parking

Parents/Guardians and Students of Bingham High School,

Parking space at Bingham High is a limited resource. Parking in the parking lot is a privilege; a parking permit does not guarantee you a parking spot. Bingham High School will issue parking permits first to Seniors, then to a limited number of Juniors via lottery. Therefore, there are no exceptions to who gets a parking permit, so please do not request an exception.

A parking permit allows you to park your vehicle in student parking only. Students are not allowed to park anywhere else on campus except for the designated student parking areas on campus with a valid parking permit. Vehicles parked on campus without a valid parking permit will be cited and receive a parking boot. (see FAQ section for more information on parking citations).

Parking stalls on the driver's Education range are painted blue. Vehicles parked on the driving range must move from the range by 3pm every day so the driver's education program can begin their range drives. Vehicles still parked on the range after 3:00pm may be towed at owner's expense.

Parking permit decals are required in order to park on Bingham High School Campus. Do not park in any school lot until your parking permit decal is properly attached to the inside lower left-hand corner of the front windshield (driver's side). If you need to permanently change vehicles during the school year, or if you need to get anew windshield, please scrape the decal off the windshield, tape all pieces of the decal to a sheet of paper, and bring it to the main office to receive a new decal for $5.00.

Remember that parking is a privilege, not a right. A permit does not guarantee a spot.

Sophomore students are not eligible for a parking permit or allowed to park anywhere on campus.

Issuing parking permits will follow this order: Seniors-Only, Juniors’ Lottery Drawing, and Wait List for Juniors.

Seniors Only - JULY 7 – AUGUST 8 2025

Parking permit applications for Seniors will be available from July 7 through August 8, 2025. Permit applications are done on our school website at www.binghamminers.org → Resources → Parking→ Scan QR code. Bring a valid driver’s license and payment on Senior Picture Day (August 05) to purchase a parking permit. Refer to the permit purchase requirements listed below.

Juniors registering for a parking permit and the lottery process -

JULY 7 – AUGUST 8

Beginning Monday, July 7 through Friday, August 8, 2025 at 3 pm, Juniors may register for the Lottery Drawing by scanning the QR code on the school website at www.binghamminers.org → Resources → Parking→ Scan QR code. The remaining parking permits will be issued to juniors via a lottery system beginning at 8:00 AM on August 11, 2025.

Each lottery drawing registrant will receive a unique sequential ID number (USID), beginning with the number 1. Since the Lottery Drawing is a random process, the order of registration is completely irrelevant. Students registering earlier will have no advantage over students registering later. Once the registration window for the lottery drawing closes (Friday, August 8, 2025 at 3pm), the list of registrants will be randomized before the drawing.

At 8:00 AM on Monday, August 11, 2025, the lottery selection process will begin. An administrator will start with that randomized list and inform the students that they have been chosen to purchase a parking permit. This process will continue until all remaining parking permits have been sold.  Students who have been randomly selected via the lottery will be given the option to purchase a parking permit starting August 11, 2025 at 10am through 2pm on August 22, 2025. Refer to the permit purchase requirements listed below.

Lottery Example: 500 Juniors registered for the lottery, receiving UIDs 1- 500. On August 8, 2025, it was determined that 300 parking permits remain unsold. A list of registrants from 1-500 is then randomized following the closing of the Senior-Only window on AUGUST 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM. From the randomized list of registrants, Juniors are selected until the remaining 300 parking permits are sold. The remaining 200 registrants will stay on the list, and as parking permits become available, they will be notified.

UNCLAIMED PERMITS: Qualifying students who do not purchase their permits before the August 22nd, 2:00 PM deadline will have their UID voided and will be placed at the bottom of the waitlist.

Wait List - AUGUST 22, 2025 – END OF SCHOOL YEAR

Juniors whose UID was not selected during the lottery selection process will remain on that randomized list as one waiting to purchase a parking permit. In other words, the lottery list of remaining juniors will become the waitlist of students for the remainder of the school year. Any student who registers after the lottery drawing has been completed on August 11, 2025, will be added to the bottom of the waitlist. Parking is monitored throughout the semester to determine availability and whether or not we are able to sell more parking permits.

Requirements for Permit Purchase

Everyone wishing to purchase a parking permit must have ALL the following in their possession to purchase (no exceptions):

  • Confirmation that the 2025 - 2026 school year class and extracurricular current fees, and all outstanding student fees and fines have been paid in full. This means your student account must have a balance of zero to purchase a parking permit.

  • Complete parking permit application online (Scan QR code)

  • A parking permit agreement with the parent's signature completed in advance (attached) and brought with you to our front office.

  • A valid driver’s license for the student driver applying for the permit must be shown at the time of permit purchase.

  • A license plate number or temporary license number for ONE car to be listed on the permit. One car per parking permit only.

  • A $20 permit fee (payable at the time of purchase, not registration).

  • Confirmation that all outstanding parking tickets have been paid in full

Ineligible Students

Sophomore students are not eligible for parking permits. Sophomores parking on campus will result in a parking boot placed on the student’s vehicle with a $25.00 parking fee to remove the boot. The third parking violation will result in a loss of eligibility for the following year's Junior permit lottery.

Junior or Senior students who will not have a driver’s license issued by August 22, 2025, or who have a birthday afterward, can register for a parking permit via the Lottery and receive a UID. Once they receive a valid driver’s license, these students can bring their driver’s license information to the Main Office, at which time their UID will be verified, and they will be eligible to purchase a permit.

Thank you for your attention and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions, refer to the FAQ (below) before calling the Main Office at (801) 256-5100.

FAQ

Q: How many parking permits am I able to purchase for the 2025 - 2026 school year?

A: You may purchase 1 additional parking permit. We will follow the same process for parking permits: Seniors – Yes, Juniors - Lottery, Sophomores - No

Q: My sibling also attends Bingham, but on a different schedule – can we both get a parking permit?

A: Seniors – Yes, Juniors -  If both you and your sibling are selected in the lottery drawing, Sophomores - Not eligible

Q: What if I purchase a new vehicle with a temporary license plate? What do I need to do?

A: You must provide the main office with the official license plate number once the plates are on the vehicle, or risk receiving a boot and a $25 parking fine.

Q: I got a parking permit last year, but I frequently found that there were no more spaces left when I arrived at school! Why is that?

A: Students' schedules vary and not all students have a full, 8-class schedule (ie: JATC, Work-release, etc). Therefore, more permits are issued than there are spaces. If there are no spaces available, you will need to find parking off campus. Parking illegally will result in a fine, regardless of your permit.

Q: I am a Junior/Senior but will not turn 16 and get a license before August 22, 2025. What should I do?

A: Juniors/Seniors who will not have a valid license before August 22, 2025 can register for the lottery using a valid learner’s permit. If your UID is selected, your position will be preserved, and you can purchase a permit after you receive your driver’s license.

Q: I received a permit, but decided to carpool with some friends instead. Can I give/sell my permit to my sibling/friend?

A: Permits are non-transferable under any circumstance, and are unique to each driver and vehicle. Parking permits are registered to the vehicle listed in the parking permit application. A fine of $25 is issued for using another student’s parking permit and loss of parking privilege on the BHS campus for the remainder of the school year will be enforced.

Q: I have a UID that was selected, but I won’t be in town by the deadline to purchase my permit.  What can I do?

A:  Please call the Main Office at (801) 256-5100 BEFORE August 22, 2025, to make arrangements. Friends CANNOT pick up permits for friends. Parents may purchase a permit, and the student may pick up the permit at a later date with a valid driver’s license.

Q:  Help! I didn’t get a permit! What can I do????

A:  A handful of new permits are issued throughout the year as they become available, so don’t give up. And remember, you have 850 fellow friendly students, many of whom would be happy to carpool with you!

Q: My windshield is getting replaced, but my parking permit is still on it. What do I do?

A: You must scrape off your parking permit from the windshield, bring it into the front office, and purchase a replacement parking permit for $5.00. You must bring in the parking permit from your old windshield in order to purchase a replacement. If you forgot to scrape off the parking permit, then you will need to purchase one for $20.00

Remember, parking space at Bingham High is a limited resource. Parking in the student parking lot is a privilege; a parking permit does not guarantee you a parking spot. Bingham High School will issue parking permits first to Seniors, then to a limited number of Juniors via lottery.
