Parent/Guardian Communication

Communication with your teachers is a key part in your student’s success.  Please visit the school’s website often. This website contains links to Skyward, teacher/classroom information, Canvas links, calendars with important dates, School Community Council information, and a link to the Jordan School District student email system. Students and parents can stay well informed about class work, homework assignments, and other important school information by utilizing the website and by checking Skyward on a regular basis. Be sure to keep your information on Skyward updated to receive important announcements and emails from Bingham High School.  If needed, please contact the attendance office for information about your Skyward password.

Grading Policy

The grade a student receives in class should be a reflection of their learning, understanding and commitment to the educational process. 65% of a student’s grade will be based on the assessments or measurements of learning that occur in the class. 25% of the grade will be based on daily assignments or the daily work that prepares students for their assessments. 10% Will be based upon regular school attendance.   Some courses may have an additional category because of the nature of the class or follow a different scale as outlined by the requirements of concurrent enrollment courses. Any additions will be communicated through the individual teacher.

Cheating and Plagiarism

Cheating in any form is unacceptable. Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own and is a form of cheating. Students are expected to complete their own work and properly cite any works used in their original assignments The teacher will contact the parent to notify them that their student may receive a zero for the assignment/assessment on which he/she cheated. At the teacher’s discretion, students may be allowed to make up the assignment/assessment.

School-Wide Late Work Policy

There is no academic penalty each quarter for the first two assignments turned in late in each class. That being said, teachers may identify major projects (assessments) that will not be accepted late (i.e., research papers, projects, final essays, etc.). End-of-quarter deadlines will be set and enforced to meet grade reporting deadlines.

Make-Up Work Policy

It is the student’s responsibility to ask teachers for assignments missed due to school/parent excused absences and to complete the work in a timely manner determined by the teacher. Assignments that were missed due to truancy will be accepted based on teacher discretion.

Remediation

At Bingham, we believe in allowing students to demonstrate proficiency. Some students may need more time and/or opportunities to demonstrate this proficiency. Remediation may include retakes, test corrections, or alternate assignments etc.

Friday Personalized Learning Time

Personalized Learning Time is on Fridays from 1:25 - 2:25.   The goal of personalized learning is to help students with content mastery. Teachers' primary focus on Fridays will be reteaching concepts on learning goals, learning objectives, and standards on which students are not demonstrating mastery. Every student is encouraged to seek out a teacher to get help with their grade; however, please know that a teacher will be prioritizing reteaching activities for students.

Friday is not the time for students to exclusively come in to complete assessments or missing assignments. Make-up work should be scheduled before/after school. Students will need to work with their individual teachers for time to do make-up work that they need help with.

School-Wide Electronic Device Policy

Cell phones and other electronic devices are allowed only as outlined in Jordan School District Policy AA453.  If students use electronic devices at inappropriate times or for inappropriate reasons, they are subject to immediate confiscation. Please do not call or text your student during school time. If you need to contact your student, please call the attendance office at 801-256-5110.  A tiered consequence system is in place for students who have multiple violations of this policy.

School-Wide Attendance Policy:

Consistent attendance is vital to the educational success of all students. We expect students to attend all of their classes, to be in class on time, and to be ready to learn and motivated to succeed. Please see the details of the Bingham High attendance policy available on our website.  10% of a student's overall grade is now measured by regular attendance.

Classroom Supplies:

Students are expected to be prepared at school each day with the needed supplies to be successful. Please check regularly with your student(s) to make sure they have the necessary supplies and materials.
