CTE - Family and Consumer Science Home

The mission of Family and Consumer Sciences Education is to prepare students for family life, work life, and careers in family and consumer sciences by providing opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors needed to be successful in their family life, as well as in the world of work.
 
The FACS department offers classes at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level in the following areas:
* Food and Nutrition
* ProStart, Sponsored by the National Restaurant Association
* Adult Roles and Responsibilities/Financial Literacy
* Child Development/Early Childhood Education
* Interior Design
* Apparel Design and Production/Fashion
 
Concurrent Enrollment classes:
* FHS 2400, Marriage and Family Relationships
* FHS 2600, Introduction to Early Childhood Education.
* INTD 1010, Introduction to Interior Design
 
Here are a few of the unique and exciting experiences students can enjoy in FACS classes:
* Teach in the Bingham Preschool or Child Care labs
* Experiencing parenting by caring for the Real Care Baby
* Learning to use the quilting machine
* Experience running a restaurant in the Miner Diner
* Culinary competitions
 
In addition, all students have the opportunity to join and participate in FCCLA. They can serve as chapter officers, participate in competition at Region, State and National conventions, and plan and carry out service projects. See the FCCLA page for more information.
