World War II class

"The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself."
                        - Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Hi World War II class,

First, I hope everyone is doing well.  Second, I want you to relax about your grade for the end of 3rd quarter and the beginning of 4th quarter.  We're going to try to do as much as we can online, but if you can't access an assignment or a video, or you have difficulty sending something to me, I will take late work with no penalty for both quarters once classwork resumes.  Try to stay up with the coursework, but don't panic about grades until we can talk, I can always go back and change grades once the quarter has ended, if I missed an email from you or something like that.

Lastly, to send assignments to me, you can just take a picture on your phone and send it to me, you can scan it in and send it, you can just email me the answers, OR you can physically drop stuff off at school in my mailbox or in my classroom (I'll be in and out of my classroom for the next 2 weeks, but I should be in at least a couple hours a day). I really don't care how your work gets to me, just get it to me.

To get all work and powerpoints and attachments, please go to the Bingham High website and click on my name and then the appropriate class.  Everything you need should be right there.

So for the week of March 16th-March 20th you need to do 2 things:
1.  Email me your Movie Reveiw #2 (btw, Midway and Hacksaw Ridge are currently in Redbox)
2. Complete the questions on this D-Day veteran interveiw (questions and the link are attached)

Email me if you have any questions.
Brett Boberg,
Work for the week of March 23rd to March 27th

First, I'll still accept extra credit movies up until Friday.  You can watch up to 3 extra credit movies per quarter.
All work we do from here on out will go on 4th quarter's grade.

For this week:
1. View the powerpoint 'Fall of Germany' and fill out the guided notes that go along with it as best you can.
2.  View the powerpoint on Naval Warfare and fill out the notes that go along with it.  We're going to be starting the Pacifiic Theater, so this will be a good introduction.

A lot of you mentioned how much you enjoyed the D-Day interview.  I like it as well because it demonstrates a couple of things, like the dirtiness of war (why I like the movie Fury), how veterans didn't care for replacements bc they died so quickly (an episode of Band of Brothers), and how many veterans rersented their enemies even after the war (like my grandfather, for one).  That was a good interview!

Have a good week everybody!
Hi class! Welcome to week #3.  There will be no work assigned next week during Spring Break.  Just a reminder that your movie review #3 will be due, April 22nd.

For this week, you need to:

1. Complete the Pacifc Theater map.  Just use the internet for your research on the specific battles.  I have attached the instructions and a blank map.
2.  Watch the documentary Battle 360: Hammer of Hell (I have attached the link) and fill out the studyguide that goes along with it (also attached). This will give you a good indication of life on a carrier and the different aircraft used by both sides.
Hi WWII class! Hope you are keeping your sense of humor and your sanity out there and that you are staying safe! Here is your course work for April 13th to April 17th.   As usual, email me if you have any questions.

1.  View the Powerpoint on War in the Pacific and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.
*Btw, if you're computer doesn't have Powerpoint (like my laptop at home), you can try opening it from a smartphone if you have one- that worked for me.
2.  Go to the Youtube link that I have provided and watch Battle 360: Vengeance at Midway and fill out the videoguide that goes along with it.  It's about 54 minutes long, but it is REALLY good
*Just a reminder that your Movie Review #3 is due April 22nd.  You can email it to me at any time.
Coursework for April 20th to April 24th:

So a couple of things before we get to the work.....
1.  I am putting in grades for all Battle Powerpoints/Presentations.  If I have NOT seen yours yet and you already haven't sent it to me, please do so in the next little while.
2.  I am cutting the WWII Final an the Final project (you can thank the Rona for those), but I am still requiring WWII Movie Reviews #3 and #4 AND your WWII Book Review.  Get them in whenever you can.

We are officially done with the Pacific Theater (btw, a Cruiser, Destroyer, or Submarine would get a big tub of ice cream for returning a downed pilot back to his carrier), and now we are starting The Holocaust (sorry to be do depressing during the quarantine).

For this week, view the Powerpoint on the Holocaust and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.  Then answer the questions on Medical Experiments by the Nazis.

As usual, email me with any concerns or questions.
Coursework for the week of April 27th to May 1st.  First, I have been really impressed with how well you guys are keeping up in this class! Well done! We're almost there- I will not give any work after May 22nd.

So we're sticking with the Holocaust with this assignment.  It's fanstastic (although very depressing) and a good reminder that no matter how bad things are with this virus and the quarantine, things can always get worse.  As usual, email me with any questions.

*By the way, we were going to watch Unbroken in here, but since that is no longer an option, feel free to watch it as one of your movie reviews.  You'll love it!

**Also, if you have one of my movies or books, please make sure I get it back by the end of the year.  And if you would like to donate a WWII movie or book to my library for future classes, I will give you 15 points extra credit.  Just drop it off in my box as school, with a post-it marked with your name and extra credit.

Coursework for the week of May 4th to May 8th

Ok class! We're almost to the end.  We only have 3 more weeks to go, including this one.            You can do this!
So we're done with The Holocaust (thankfully) so now we're going to move onto the American Homefront and Minorities during the war.  So for this week, you should:

1.  View the Powerpoint on the Homefront and Minorities (same powerpoint) and fill in the guided notes as best you can.
2.  Watch the trailer on Red Tails and write down one fact from it on your notes.  The trailer makes the movie look amazing, but I didn't love it.  But if you want to watch this for one of your movie reviews or extra credit, feel free to do so.
3.  Watch the clip on Japanese Internment and write down 2 facts from it on the bottom of your notes.

Ok WWII class,

This is the last week I will be posting any work (yay for both of us!).  I am giving you all of next week to submit your Movie Review #4 and your Book Review.  Just send them to me as soon as you have them finished.  I look forward to reading your book reviews in particular.  Good luck and have a good week.

For this week:
1.  View the powerpoint on Propaganda of WWII and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.
2.  Google any random WWII Propaganda poster and answer the questions on it (there are some great ones out there).
3. View the powerpoint on WWII Conclusion and fill in the guided notes that go along with it.

No work for this week other than turn in Movie Review #4 and your Book Review.

Also, if you checked out one of my WWII videos or books, I have a cart located just inside the main entrance of the building.  Please return it there so I don't have to fine you.

Thank you,

Mr Boberg
Just a reminder: if any of you want to donate your WWII DVD or book to my WWII library for future classes, I will give you 15 points extra credit!
